I started my career at John Brewster Chartered Architects in Cupar, Fife before moving to Hull City Council, City Architects Department to work on the refurbishment of the existing housing stock within a part of North Hull. On returning to Scotland and after brief return to John Brewster’s, I moved to Thomas Mitchell Homes in Thornton, Fife working on timber framed houses and commercial buildings. When I made the switch to Thomas Mitchel Builders I worked on site layouts for a number of site. Moving to Design 29 in Kirkcaldy I worked on a variety of buildings from new housing and house extensions to flatted developments, offices and other commercial buildings. I then moved to The Pollock Hammond Partnership in Linlithgow, I worked on a lot of historic and listed buildings as they are conservation Architects. I also worked on housing, restaurants, garden centre, shops and factories. My next move was Keith Renton Architect, working mainly on new building housing with the occasional house extension. The housing would be designed with energy efficiency in mind and exceed the current building standards working towards Passivhaus standard. I carried out SAP calculations for all dwelling houses and became an RIAS Part 6 Certifier of Design. Then I moved to James Clydesdale Associates, gaining further experience within the industry working on different buildings such as; nursing homes, and the new main stand at Tynecastle, up to Planning and Building Control. I also worked on the new shop and changing rooms at the Wheatfield Stand undercroft for Heart of Midlothian Football Club. After leaving James Clydesdale I moved back to Pollock Hammond Ltd to work on conservation again, I am also working on housing new build and extensions.
I have 38 years experience working as an Architectural Technologist. I have a wide range of experience working on housing, offices, restaurants, factories, garden centres to the new main stand at Tynecastle for Heart of Midlothian FC. I also have experience working on energy efficient housing working towards Passivhaus standard.
What does Part 6 certifier of design mean?
I am a Part 6 certifier of design with the RIAS energy design certification scheme. This means I can self-certify the energy section of the building standards. The scheme allows me to offer a reduction on the building control application fee, up to 10%. I can also advise on energy use and design to get the best for your house.
